Dr. Janice Dickerson was born and raised in Oswego, Illinois. She received her B.A. in Biology from the Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Maryland in 1990. As an undergraduate, she worked in genetic research. After graduation, she worked in a hematology lab as a research assistant. She then attended the University of Illinois College of Medicine, where she received her medical degree in 1995. During medical school, she completed an internship with the World Health Organization in Geneva, Switzerland, where she studied quality assessment in medical education. She completed her internship and residency in Family Practice at East Carolina University in Greenville, North Carolina in 1998. She is Board Certified in Family Practice. She has special interests in women's and children's health, and has been in private practice since 1998.

She lives in Wilmington with her husband Keith and their daughters Nicole and Natalie.
